Art Rock Show – Day and Age (Week 28)

Frost* is een in 2004 opgerichte Britse muziekgroep die vernieuwende (neo)prog wil brengen. De band werd rondom musicus en producer Jem Godfrey gebouwd. Wouter Bessels van Prog Wereld: “Goed, de vierde Frost* dus, na vijf jaar wachten. En waarmee stilletjes het vijftienjarig bestaan van de band wordt gevierd. Het debuut “Milliontown” sloeg in 2006 in als een bom. In de destijds overwegend gezapige progrockscene was consolidatie belangrijker dan experimenteerdrift, terwijl Godfrey c.s. naast een zekere frisheid ook de scherpe randjes aanbracht in de aloude, vol geproduceerde neoprog. Met een gezonde dosis humor, sterke songs en productietechnisch om door een ringetje te halen. (…)

Het geluid is overwegend zwaar en donker, zoals in Terrestrial en Repeat To Fade. Zware, logge gitaren leunen tegen metal aan, maar kunnen elk moment weer plaatsmaken voor funky slaggitaren en Wakeman-achtige solo’s van Godfrey.… Read more...
