Art Rock Show – Charcoal Grace (Week 09)

Charcoal Grace is het zesde studioalbum van de Australische progressieve metalband Caligula ‘s Horse . Het werd op 26 januari 2024 uitgebracht via Inside Out Music en werd geproduceerd door Sam Vallen, de gitarist van de band.

Roger Pruppers van Prog Wereld: “Hoe vind je de balans tussen een herkenbaar bandgeluid en het introduceren van nieuwe elementen? Waar bij een aantal progmetalbands die weegschaal recent doorslaat naar de veilige kant, weet Caligula’s Horse op “Charcoal Grace” het evenwicht te vinden.

Verwacht geen al te radicale wijziging in de muzikale benadering; het bandgeluid bevindt zich nog steeds ergens tussen de landgenoten van Karnivool (tegendraadse songstructuren), Tesseract (staccato djentriffs) en Haken (hoge melodieuze zang), al is Caligula’s Horse misschien inmiddels vooral ook een referentie op zich. Maar het herkenbare bandgeluid impliceert allerminst dat “Charcoal Grace” een herhalingsoefening is.… Read more...
