BACKGROUND + MEER INFORMATIE
JIM McCARTY about KEITH RELF
Radio 68 exclusive interview with Jim Mcarty (Yardbirds, Renaissance , Illusion, etc.) about Keith Relf’s solo recordings: the two singles released in 1966 and rereleased on the remastered 2cd “Roger the Engineer” and home recording to be found as bonus tracks on “Renaissance. Live at the Fillmore West 1970”.
Angel Air Records recently issued a new album by Renaissance, the band formed by Keith Relf and Jim McCarty when The Yardbirds had broken up. “Live At the Fillmore West 1970” is taken from a live tape sent to Jim McCarty and features exactly four tracks, three of which can also be found on the first Renaissance album. The odd one out is titled ‘No Name Raga’ and hasn’t appeared anywhere till now. To me, the added value of this release lies in the four bonus tracks: one unreleased recording by the band at the Island studios and three recorded at Keith Relf’s house – equally unreleased. Whereas ‘Statues’ is a fully finished track, the home recording are just that: Keith and his sister Jane trying out songs as the tape is running. Still, they give a valuable insight into the sort of sound Relf was into apart from The Yardbirds and even apart from Renaissance / illusion.
Sincere thanks to www.angelair.co.uk and Jim Mc Carty
