Psychedelic, heavy, prog and more innovating sounds spanning the late 60s and the early 70s – Wednesday february 21st. Dan’s pick of the week: Bröselmaschine (Bröselmaschine), Hoelderlin (Hoelderlin), Wallenstein (Mother Universe), Emtidi (Saat), Sperrmüll (Sperrmüll) & Rufus Zuphall (Phallobst).

De Bröselmaschine is voortgekomen uit de folkband Les Autres, opgericht in 1966. De naam van de band komt van een cannabisverpletterapparaat en het geluid van een motorfiets die toebehoorde aan een vriend van bandlid Jenni Schücker. De bandleden woonden in een gemeente in Duisburg en behoorden eind jaren zestig tot de eerste Duitse rockbands. De eerste line-up bestond uit Peter Bursch , Willi Kissmer, Lutz Ringer, Jenni Schücker, Michael Hellbach.

Art Rock Show – Wall of Eyes (Week 10)

The Smile is een Engelse rockband bestaande uit de Radiohead- leden Thom Yorke (zang, gitaar, bas, toetsen) en Jonny Greenwood (gitaar, bas, toetsen) met Tom Skinner (drums). Critici vergeleken ze met Radiohead, met meer jazz-, krautrock- en progressieve rockinvloeden en een losser, wilder geluid.

Sam Small van Paste: “Wall of Eyes, on the other hand, has a distinctive stride. Although only eight songs long, not one track on the album clocks in under five minutes. There are frequent lush, open spaces coalescing into pensive, jammy meandering. Heavy guitar and arpeggiated picking are subbed out for more string arrangements from both Greenwood and The London Contemporary Orchestra.

Wall of Eyes is a sweeping, Smile-ing symphony. This could be attributed to production duties going to Sam Petts-Davies—A Moon Shaped Pool engineer and Suspiria soundtrack co-producer—rather than long-time collaborator Nigel Godrich.… Read more...

Dan’s pick of the week: Hawkwind (Doremi Fasol Latido), Iron Butterfly (In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida), Captain Beyond (Captain Beyond), Eloy (Floating), Brainticket (Celestial Ocean) & Atomic Rooster (Death Walks Behind You).

Hawkwind is een Engelse rockband die bekend staat als een van de eerste spacerockgroepen. Sinds hun oprichting in november 1969 heeft Hawkwind vele incarnaties doorgemaakt en veel verschillende stijlen in hun muziek verwerkt, waaronder hardrock, progressieve rock en psychedelische rock.
