Family was een van de grootste en meest originele Britse rockgroepen van de late jaren ’60, begin jaren ’70. Toch zijn ze voor het grootste deel vergeten nooit het respect gekregen dat ze verdienden. Bij deze willen we dat hier rechtzetten…

Art Rock Show – City Burials (Week 32)

Met Katatonia komen de liefhebbers van stevige rock/metal met een melancholisch en progressief tintje weer aan hun trekken. De nieuweling klinkt als een klok. Review van Jeffrey van Metalfan.nl: ”

De elfde full-length zet de lijn door die met Dead End Kings (2012) is ingezet. De collectie tracks is wat steviger dan zijn voorganger, maar er zijn voldoende atmosferische en kalmere momenten om voor een goede balans te zorgen. De songs zijn gelaagd en mede daardoor wat progressiever. Het is zowel een herkenbaar als verfrissend album met enerzijds de melancholie en anderzijds vernieuwende elementen, waaronder bepaalde zanglijnen van Renkse.

Elke compositie heeft een eigen identiteit, die door Jacob Hansen (mix, master) goed is uitgelicht. De Deen heeft uitstekend werk geleverd. Heart Set To Divide is direct een overtuigende openingstrack, die kalm opbouwt met een Floydiaanse vibe voordat de Opeth-achtige riffs hun intrede doen. … Read more...

Art Rock Show – Where Do You Want Ghosts to Reside (Week 31)

Deze week stellen we u Fren aan u voor. Het is een vrij nieuwe progressieve rockband afkomstig uit het mooie Krakau te Polen en. De groep bestaat uit Oskar Cenkier (keyboards), Michal Chalota (gitaar), Andrii Shamanov (basgitaar, synthesizer) en Oleksii Fedoriv (drums). Opgericht in 2017 is dit een van de vele zogenaamde retro prog bands die inspiratie zoeken in de klassieke jaren 70 met bands als King Crimson, Pink Floyd en Yes met vleugje Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath en zelfs Dream Theater.

Prog Archives review: “Trespass: The most overlooked Genesis album from the 70s Gabriel era, and it’s still one of my favorites. No Collins, no Hacket. But it doesn’t mean anything since it’s a masterpiece. Looking for Someone is the first track, and what a brilliant opening track! Peter’s voice is full filled with feeling and the song structure defines the progressive music in itself: the difference between frames following a story, the theatrical lyrics and presence of the band, and the instrumental beauty.… Read more...
