Jethro Tull is een Britse progressieve rockband die werd opgericht in 1967. Hun muziek is herkenbaar aan de opmerkelijke zangstijl en het unieke dwarsfluitwerk van Ian Anderson, aan de ongewone en vaak complexe liedconstructies en aan de uitmuntende teksten.

Stand Up is het tweede studioalbum van de Britse rockband Jethro Tull, uitgebracht in 1969. Het was het eerste Jethro Tull album met gitarist Martin Barre, die later de langstzittende gitarist van de band zou worden.

Dan’s pick of the week: Quarteto 1111 (Onde, Quando, Como, Porquê, Cantamos Pessoas Vivas), Petrus Castrus (Ascenção E Queda), Tantra (Mistérios E Maravilhas), Banda Do Casaco (Hoje Há Conquilhas Amanhã Não Sabemos), José Cid (10.000 Anos Depois Entre Vénus E Marte) & Saga (Homo Sapiens).

De ontwikkeling van de rockscene in Portugal was beperkt vanwege het isolement van het land, dat tot in 1974 een fascistische dictatuur was. Na de Anjerrevolutie van 1974, werd Portugal de thuisbasis van een actieve progressieve rockscene, met bands als Tantra, Petrus Castrus, Banda do Casaco en het zeer succesvolle Quarteto 1111.

Rock On! Wednesday, 1 September – Hero and Heroine (Strawbs, Rare Bird, The Nice, Isopoda & Kraan)

Psychedelic, heavy, prog and more innovating sounds spanning the late 60s and the early 70s – Wednesday December 23rd. Dan’s pick of the week: Strawbs (Hero and Heroine), Rare Bird (Rare Bird), The Nice (The Thoughts Of Emerlist Davjack), Isopoda (Acrostichon) & Kraan (Live).

Hero and Heroine is het 6de studioalbum van de Engelse band Strawbs. De plaat verscheen in 1974. De Strawbs is een Engelse rockband die oorspronkelijk de Strawberry Hill Boys heette. Het eerste album Strawbs verschijnt in 1969. Toetsenist Rick Wakeman maakt begin jaren zeventig korte tijd deel uit van de groep. Daarna vertrok hij voor goed naar Yes.
