Psychedelic, heavy, prog and more innovating sounds spanning the late 60s and the early 70s – Wednesday April 17th. Dan’s pick of the week: Edition Spéciale (Aliquante), Secret Oyster (Sea Son), Dedalus (Dedalus), Rahmann (Rahmann) & Maneige (Composite).

Halverwege de jaren zeventig was de Franse jazz-rock fusionstijl nog niet volledig gedefinieerd. Dan besloot een van de beroemdste Franse gitaristen sinds zijn deelname aan Triangle zijn kanste wagen… Martial Lorenzini richtte in 1975 Edition Spéciale op, met toetsenist-zangeres Ann Ballester, bassist Josquin François Turenne des Pres en drummer Jean François Bouchet-d’Angélis. Zonder enige twijfel één van de belangrijkste Franse bands van de jaren zeventig!

Psychedelic, heavy, prog and more innovating sounds spanning the late 60s and the early 70s – Wednesday April 17th. Dan’s pick of the week: Maquina! (Why? Máquina!), Los Canarios (Ciclos), Iceberg (Coses Nostres), Fusioon (Fusioon II) & Bloque (Bloque).

Máquina! is misschien wel de allereerste underground rockgroep die een plaat heeft opgenomen in Franco’s Spanje. Hun eerste single dateert uit begin ’69, en het jaar daarop kwam hun eerste LP uit met een opvallend artwork waarop een klok stond afgebeeld die uit een croissant kwam. Tijd om wakker te worden vond de uit Barcelona…
