Rock On! Wednesday, 1 May 2024 – High Tide, Iron Butterfly, Black Widow, Quatermass & Hawkwind

Psychedelic, heavy, prog and more innovating sounds spanning the late 60s and the early 70s – Wednesday April 17th. Dan’s pick of the week: High Tide (Sea Shanties), Iron Butterfly (In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida), Black Widow (Black Widow III), Quatermass (Quatermass) & Hawkwind (Space Ritual).

Sea Shanties is het debuutalbum van de Engelserockband High Tide, die bekend staat om het opnemen van de viool als rockinstrument. Het hoesontwerp werd getekend door Paul Whitehead.

Prog Archives review: “his was a band so far ahead of their time that except for the tepid sixties studio production this album doesn’t really seem all that dated even today. Not your typical proto-prog band, but undoubtedly there are a couple of generations of heavy metal and psych rockers these guys managed to have an influence on nonetheless.… Read more...

Rock On! Wednesday, 17 April 2024 – Lard Free, Soft Machine, The Muffins, Weidorje, Electric Sandwich & Satin Whale

Psychedelic, heavy, prog and more innovating sounds spanning the late 60s and the early 70s – Wednesday April 17th. Dan’s pick of the week: Lard Free (I’m Around About Midnight), Soft Machine (Volume Two), The Muffins (Manna/Mirage), Weidorje (Weidorje), Electric Sandwich (Electric Sandwich) & Satin Whale (Whalecome).

UNSUNG review: “For this second Lard Free album, Gilbert Artman – here playing drums, percussion, vibes, Hammond organ, piano, tenor sax and CNDP [?] – put together an entirely new group behind him and leapt into moody deep inner-space territory informed in part by Terry Riley and Heldon, though leaping a few shades beyond. Some of the elements of the debut were still present, but the whole was smoother texturally, and more experimentally sophisticated. It still stands the test of time today and sounds remarkably modern.… Read more...
