Art Rock Show – Out of This World (Week 37)

De Nederlandse band Kayak heeft er een loopbaan van bijna 50 jaar opzitten. Het nieuwe album ontstond tijdens de lockdown van de coronapandemie en het herstel van bandleider Ton Scherpenzeel. Het album werd uitgebracht door het platenlabel InsideOut Music, gespecialiseerd in progressieve rock. Kayak moest zelf het benodigde bedrag voor de productie bijeenbrengen door crowdfunding.

Rik van den Heuvel van Prog Wereld: “Zoals ik eerder al aangaf kent dit album veel variatie. Na de onmiskenbaar Kayak-achtige opener Out Of This World schieten we gelijk door naar het Bowie-esque popnummer Waiting, waarbij het niet zanger Bart Schwertmann, maar gitarist Marcel Singor is die vocaal de kar mag trekken. Een kunstje dat Marcel met zijn unieke stem goed afgaat en wat mij betreft dé verrassing van het album.… Read more...
