Art Rock Show – Eden in Reverse (Week 38)

Deze week stellen we de Griekse band Hail Spirit Noir aan u voor. Deze groep is nogal avontuurlijk ingesteld. Hail Spirit Noir combineert bedwelmende psychedelica met een expansieve aanpak waarin veel ruimte is voor innovatieve en progressieve invloed.

Metalfan.nl review: “Het kost slechts tien seconden van opener Darwinian Beasts om te beseffen dat Hail Spirit Noir geen alledaagse kost produceert. Zweverige sci-fi-synthlijnen borrelen bibberend omhoog uit de peilloze diepten in een loom, psychedelisch ritme, totdat het intro overgaat in de bonkige ritmes van Incense Swirls, dat Nachtmystium-invloeden (denk aan het Black Meddle-tweeluik) combineert met dromerige en bijzondere cleane vocalen, die zelfs herinneren aan de lieflijke, symfonische rock uit vervlogen tijden (Yes, The Flower Kings, Kaipa). Het contrast werkt wonderwel.

De cleane zang roept eveneens herinneringen op aan het werk van ICS Vortex (Arcturus, Borknagar), maar is wel wat minder theatraal en wat plechtiger van karakter.… Read more...

Psychedelic, heavy, prog and more innovating sounds spanning the late 60s and the early 70s – Wednesday August 12th. Dan’s pick of the week: Hawkwind (Doremi Fasol Latido), Nektar (A Tab In The Ocean), The Deviants (Ptooff!), UFO (Flying – One Hour Space Rock) & Blue Oyster Cult (Blue Oyster Cult).

Hawkwind kan beschouwd worden als één van de grondleggers van de spacerock. Spacerock is volgens Wikipedia “een genre dat wordt gekenmerkt door losse en lange songstructuren met als middelpunt instrumentale texturen die typisch een hypnotiserend, buitenaards geluid produceren”. Smullen dus…

Hoppoman van Sputnik Music: “The feel to Doremi is much different to Hawkwind’s previous outings. ‘Brainstorm’ starts out with a rumbling bass line that sounds like it could be a distorted guitar.
